In October, Doug Ford and Ontario MPPs will be returning to Queen's Park after a 4 month summer hiatus. So ACORN is joining food banks, housing advocates, disability rights activists and other tenant groups for a HUGE rally at Queen's Park to welcome MPPs back to work, demanding the Provincial Government make their first priority:
- Raising the rates of ODSP and OW
- Freezing the rent immediately and introducing full rent control
The rally is on Thursday October 23rd from 11am-2pm at Queen's Park (111 Wellesley St W, Toronto).
MEET UP LOCATIONS:
- Toronto ACORN members & supporters will be meeting as a group at 11am by the Francophone Monument at the northeast corner of College & University.
- Hamilton ACORN members & allies will be bussing to Queen's Park in the morning of the 23rd. Pick up will be at 9:15am from the Hamilton ACORN office (56 Mulberry St).
- Peel ACORN members & supporters will be bussing to Queen's Park in the morning of the 23rd. There will be two pick up locations: 9AM at Brampton City Hall (2 Wellington St W) and 9:45AM at the Square One Starbucks at 189 Rathburn Rd W, Mississauga. Buses will leave Toronto at 2PM and return to these same locations.
SOLIDARITY ACTIONS:
- London & Waterloo Region ACORN members travelling to Housing Minister Rob Flack's constituency office in St Thomas. Meet up spot is the Food Basics at 780 Talbot St at 12PM. If you're travelling from London or Waterloo Region contact londonfo@acorncanada.org or kw@acorncanada.org for carpooling details.
- Ottawa ACORN is rallying at the Ottawa regional office for the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services - meet at 11AM outside the office at 347 Preston St.
