Role Summary
We are seeking experienced and passionate mentors for the BAMREF Mentoring Programme. This role is ideal for individuals committed to supporting the growth, development, and career progression of Black, Asian & Mixed Heritage individuals within Refereeing, with a strong emphasis on empowering mentees to navigate and overcome barriers they may face in their professional journeys.
As a BAMREF Mentor, you will provide guidance, share insights from your own career, and offer support to mentees seeking advice on career pathways, skill-building, and personal development. You will have the opportunity to influence and inspire by sharing practical knowledge, encouraging self-reflection, and fostering resilience in your mentees. Looking to focus on retaining them for long term success.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a positive role model by embodying professional integrity, cultural sensitivity, and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals from Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage backgrounds.
- Conduct regular one-on-one mentoring sessions, adapting your approach to meet the individual needs and goals of each mentee.
- Help mentees set and achieve realistic, measurable, and motivating personal and professional goals.
- Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and support, encouraging mentees to build confidence in their abilities and to overcome any obstacles they encounter.
- Share insights, tools, and resources to support career development, networking, and continuous learning.
- Participate in mentor training and ongoing support sessions to ensure the best outcomes for mentees and to continually develop as a mentor.
Requirements
- Proven ability to relate to, understand, and support individuals from diverse backgrounds, ideally with previous mentoring or coaching experience.
- Strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality, with an understanding of the structural and cultural challenges faced by
Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage communities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen actively, offer guidance without judgment, and build meaningful connections.
- Flexibility, empathy, and the capacity to inspire and empower others to achieve their full potential.
