Kernza (intermediate wheatgrass) is an emerging perennial grain and forage crop for producers in Minnesota. Its extensive, deep root system prevents nitrogen leaching into ground and surface waters and its perennial growth allows for multiple years of grain and forage harvest with reduced tillage and management compared to annual crops.
