The Marie Manning Scholarship
The Marie Manning Scholarship is open to current 8th-grade students from families who are parishioners of the St. John Paul II Family of Parishes and plan to attend a Catholic high school in fall 2026. Named in honor of Marie Manning, mother of the late Fr. Jim Manning, this scholarship celebrates her legacy and dedication to Catholic education.

Scholarship Awards
The scholarship committee may award up to $7,000 in total scholarships, with individual award amounts varying. Each scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable award for the 2026-2027 school year. Payments for each recipient will be made directly to their selected high school and applied to tuition, fees, and/or any other cost associated with attendance.

Announcement of Winners
Winners will be notified in February 2026.

Application
In addition to the essay, the committee will consider previous academic honors, extracurricular activities, parish involvement, and community service. We recommend drafting responses in a separate document, such as Word or Google Docs, before copying them into this form for submission.

Statement on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
All essay submissions will be reviewed for potential use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, CoPilot, Gemini, etc.). Any submission found to have relied on AI generation or assistance may be flagged, potentially resulting in a reduced score.

Application Deadline
All applications must be submitted no later than Monday, December 29, 2025. Once received, applications become the property of the Knights of Columbus. While multiple submissions are permitted, only the most recent submission will be reviewed.

Application Evaluation
Applications will be evaluated by a board of Knights of Columbus members. Board members will review only the responses to the short-answer and essay questions; they will not have access to biographical information about the student or their parent.
