NBR has a Code of Conduct, a Waiver, and Google Group Guidelines, all of which are laid out below. Please read them carefully, then enter and submit the required information to complete your membership. After we review your form, you will be sent an invitation to join the NBR Google Group. It may take a few days before you receive an email invitation to our google group, but please be patient. We're on it!
But first, a little NBR history...
NBR is a community-based running club which grew from a longing for the camaraderie and motivation of having a 'team' to run with. There are plenty of running groups throughout New York City, but North Brooklyn Runners brings together runners in this area of all fitness and experience levels who might just want a bit of team spirit, a friend to run with, or to kick-ass at their next big race! Our mission is to create a network of support in order to foster improvement, both as individuals and as a team. We strive to maintain a low-pressure, inclusive and social atmosphere within the group, with an enthusiasm for running as our common denominator.

North Brooklyn Runners was established in January of 2009. Since then, our membership has grown to include a wide spectrum of abilities and experience levels. Our ranks include ultra-marathoners, beginner runners training for their first 5-10K, casual/recreational runners, and sub-elite athletes. Whether you want to join us just for the occasional run, or become involved in one of our many volunteer or leadership opportunities, we encourage all levels of participation.

Find out more about NBR by checking out our website,, where you can review our current run schedule and learn about upcoming races. Or, just come out to one of our runs! We recommend the 9am Saturday Morning Bridge Run over the Williamsburg Bridge for new members. This is one of our most popular, low-key runs, and it’s great for all paces. We get together for coffee afterwards, so you’ll have a chance to chat with other members.

Waiver of Liability
I agree that I am a member of North Brooklyn Runners, and I understand that running in and volunteering for organized group runs, social events and races with this club are potentially hazardous activities, which could cause injury or death. I will not participate in any club organized events, group training runs or social events, unless I am medically able and properly trained, and by my accepting this waiver, I agree to abide by all rules established by the club, including the right of any official to deny or suspend my participation for violations of the Code of Conduct. I attest that I have read the rules of the club (the NBR Code of Conduct) and agree to abide by them.

Google Group Terms & Conditions
NBR’s Google Group is intended to encourage open communication between members - ideally communication that is running or NBR related. Certain topics such as barefoot running, heel striking, headphones, etc., tend to bring out strong opinions. Each message reflects the opinion or thoughts of the individual writer and are not the voice of NBR, and it's likely you won't agree with everything you read on the NBR Google Group. Messages on the Google Group are not approved or reviewed before they are posted. As a volunteer-driven running club, we're not set-up to censor or moderate the Google Group beyond some simple guidelines.

You can run with NBR without belonging to the Google Group. In theory, you can post to the Google Group without ever joining NBR for a run. But why would you? Come join us for a run!

1. The NBR Google Group should be used to share information about NBR runs, race info, and NBR events as well as running related topics. Please use our NBR Facebook page for off topic posts. Off topic would mean non-running, non-NBR related topics. While we're interested in what you're up to, we want to make it easy for people to find run, social, event, volunteer info, etc.

2. YOU CANNOT USE THE GOOGLE GROUP TO BUY OR SELL BIBS FOR ANY RACE THAT DOES NOT HAVE AN AUTHORIZED BIB TRANSFER PROCEDURE. This includes non-NYRR races, such as the Philly marathon. If a race has a way to transfer numbers (like the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in DC), then it's OK to use it. If in doubt, please carefully review the terms & conditions for the race before posting.

3. No spam. This is spam in the strictest sense. Posts about buying handbags or designer shoes, etc. with a link to a website will result in the poster losing Google Group privileges.

4. Remember: posts and replies go to the entire group. That’s a lot of people. When appropriate, please reply directly to the author. Several hundred of your NBR teammates might not want to wade through posts like 'cool, 'lol', etc. Sometimes it's best to take a topic offline with a smaller group of people.

5. Be respectful. That doesn't mean no debates or disagreements, but personal insults are not allowed.

6. Answers to common questions are often already available on the NBR website. Check out our FAQs page here: as well as older Google Group posts.

7. If the volume of email is too much, switch to a daily digest by changing your Google Group settings.
