Do you feel you belong in Canada?
Hello -
I'm Dr. Robin Yap and I'm a social scientist and professor at George Brown College in Toronto. I'm researching on how our immigrants and newcomers feel about being in Canada. All are welcome to participate in this survey. The information gathered in this survey will be used to create training programs for our settlement organizations, corporate-, government- and non-profit human resources departments so they can create more welcoming Canadian workplaces for our newcomers and immigrants. This questionnaire is purely anonymous and by responding you allow us to use the information you provided for the purpose stated above. It will take you approximately 12 minutes to complete this survey. Please be as honest as possible. Part of this study is a documentary on newcomers and immigrants. You can find information on this at my YouTube channel ("Yap with Dr. Yap" and look for the "Newcomers" playlist). If you would like to be part of this documentary or want to get a copy of the results of this survey, please add your information below.

Canadian-born or Non-Canadian born *
If non-Canadian born, when did you arrive in Canada?
Clear selection
If you were to rate between 1-5 whether you feel you belong in Canada...What is your rating? *
Don't belong here
Truly belong here
From your response above, how do you define "I belong here in Canada." *
If you rated the above question below 5, what will make it a 5? If you rated 5, please share your reasons why you feel you truly belong in Canada? *
If you're non-Canadian born, did you arrive alone or with family?
Clear selection
Which best represents your racial or ethnic heritage?   *
Identify all the countries you've lived in for 3 years or more before Canada.
From your experience, what are the characteristics that differentiate Canadians from anyone else in the planet? *
We see people hyphenate non-Canadian born citizens (e.g. Chinese-Canadians, Portuguese-Canadians, etc). Would you want to just call all Canadian citizens "Canadians?" Yes or no? If so, what will it take for you to 'just be a Canadian?" If not, why not?
If you're non-Canadian born, would you go back to your country of origin? Why or why not?
Thank you for your participation in this important study.           Best wishes! ~ Dr. Robin Yap
