Power-Up Pre-Conference Registration
We are excited to offer four pre-conference professional development sessions to this Year's Power Up Summer Conference. Please read session descriptions below, then complete the form to register.

#1 Building a Positive Classroom Culture – You Can Do It!

Building a positive classroom culture is vital to learning within that culture. This full day session looks at positive discipline practices in schools. Topics within the day include Getting to your students; Rules, Routines and Procedures; Strategies for Unexpected Behaviors; Restorative Practices, Understanding Trauma; Communication Styles; and Practical Tips and Tricks. This session is appropriate for an aspiring educator, early career educator, or experienced educator wanting to gain some fresh information to support your classroom climate.

#2 Youth Mental Health First Aid

Aware Vermont is an initiative that will provide free Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Trainings to educators throughout the state of Vermont. YMHFA is a public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. YMHFA uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care Successful completion of the YMHFA training provides certification which lasts for three years as well as 6 professional development hours for educators. #3 National Board Academy

National Board Academy Are you an NBCT? Thinking about your next professional goals? The Vermont-NBCT Network is holding its first meeting for Vermont NBCTs to explore the next steps in both bringing NBC to all schools in Vermont and being a stronger voice of educators in the state. NBCTs have achieved the “gold star” certification. They are experts in their fields and are resources for others. We hope to build a stronger coalition of NBCTs to both recognize, support and provide leadership opportunities to NBCTs and NBCT candidates in Vermont. This Academy will shape what this goal looks like!

#4 ESP Mini-Conference

Vermont-NEA offers a yearly ESP Conference, but not everyone can attend. The "mini-conference" will take some of the best attended sessions from our ESP Conference. Each session will be 1/2 day (10-12:30 & 1:30-4pm). Folks will not need to sign up for the session beforehand, and we will update you on the sessions as we confirm them!

**Evening Movie Viewing / Discussion 7:00pm - 9:00pm -- Paper Tigers

The documentary Paper Tigers is an intimate look into the lives of selected students attending and alternative school specializing in educating traumatized youth. The film examines the inspiring promise of Trauma Informed Communities-- a movement showing great promise in healing youth struggling with the dark legacy of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

Please note: The Power-Up Conference is Tuesday - Thursday, and all pre-conference attendees are encouraged to register for this conference as well. Rooming in provided beginning Monday evening. Link to the conference found at www.vtnea.org/powerup
