CVCR Board of Directors Application

Thank you for your interest in serving on the Central Vermont Community Radio Board of Directors. 

The board is made up of 10-12 members of the CVCR community and are charged with setting strategy, ensuring our mission has the resources it needs to succeed, and providing overall leadership to the organization. In our next round of new board members, we are seeking folks with fundraising experience (or a willingness to learn!), board leadership skills, and past work with organizations undergoing big change (like a move!). We’re eager to also expand the board to more fully represent our diverse community of central and northern Vermont, especially folks from our BIPOC and LGBTQ+ circles, as well as folks to expand our gender representation beyond the binary and age ranges (under 50).

The work of the CVCR board is centered around ensuring the right-sized capacity of the organization is in place in time, money, and expertise. We look to the board to be both strategy leaders, but also “doers.”

Members are expected to attend monthly board meetings (all on zoom still), participate on board committees (also on zoom), make personal financial contributions (if able), and participate in the organization’s fundraising campaigns (major donor cultivation, etc.).

We ask that interested folks submit an application. We review these on a rolling basis.

All applications will be reviewed by the full board and qualified prospective candidates will be contacted to schedule an interview.

CVCR serves the communities of north central VT and beyond by providing a forum for cultivating social change, supporting the independent arts, protecting the environment, and celebrating diversity, creativity, and freedom.  More information about CVCR and its mission is on our website under About Us.

Central Vermont Community Radio fosters a culture of diversity in programming and content, governance, management, practices, and policies. We aim to bring together people of diverse backgrounds through the power of radio, on the air and for listeners.

We embrace equity, inclusion and diversity as powerful elements that make our station better. As such, the CVCR board, staff, programmers, and volunteers aim to be reflective of our diverse community.

One way we do this is to ensure equitable representation of social identities on the air with our programmers.

It is optional for you to share your social identities (race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other social identity that is core to your lived experience) with us and it does not effect your board app. We will keep all info shared private.

The more applicants who share their identities with us assists us in meeting our commitment to diversifying who is on the air and part of our station.

Have you had previous experience working in a group setting that seeks to reach consensus as the approach to decision making?

Describe any volunteer efforts & organizations that you’ve been involved with.  Have you been involved with WGDR/WGDH in areas other than programming in the past?

Do you have any fundraising experience with other nonprofit groups, are you willing to participate in fundraising efforts for CVCR and our stations of WGDR/WGDH?

Are you familiar with WGDR programming and do you regularly listen to the station?  Do you reside within the local WGDR or WGDH broadcast area?

Have you had any felony convictions, media-related antitrust violations, or findings of discrimination or fraudulent statements made to a governmental entity in the past? 

We have to ask this due to FCC legal requirements of the licensee holders (the CVCR board).

Serving on the CVCR Board requires a time commitment.  The Board meets at least once a month (currently by zoom) and often there are other issues that require more frequent meetings.  Is your schedule flexible enough to allow for regular as well as unplanned & unscheduled meeting attendance?
