Join the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, Adalah Justice Project, Eyewitness Palestine, MPower Change, Friends of Sabeel North America, and the Democratic Socialists of America Palestine Working Group (the Invest in Justice for All coalition) to send a powerful message from Palestinians in the US to members of Congress on the need to heed the Palestinian demand to end US military funding to Israel and support Palestinian rights.
BACKGROUND: The organizing efforts around this letter builds on a successful June coalition letter (
uscpr.org/investjusticeletter) and grassroots call, in the face of Israeli threats to steal further Palestinian land (de jure 'annexation'), for legislators to end US military funding to Israel and reinvest in local community needs. It was followed by path-breaking progress, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leading lawmakers in a letter committing to introduce legislation to reduce Israeli military funding in line with Israel's abuses against the Palestinian people, as well as Rep. Betty McCollum introducing legislation to prevent US funding of further Israeli land theft in Palestine.
WHY NOW? As we work to hold lawmakers accountable to making these more just policies a reality going into 2021, we aim for the letter to amplify a clear list of policy demands of Palestinians in the US in advance of an election debate season where politicians are expected to address Palestine in a way that does not adequately center Palestinian voices. We believe this intervention is timely given most members of Congress are celebrating the recent sham agreements between Israel and the governments of UAE and Bahrain rather than working towards a real end to US complicity in Israeli violence and oppression.
SIGNING ON: We are looking for Palestinian-led organizations to sign the letter and solidarity organizations to endorse the letter. Palestinian leaders/organizers may also sign on as individuals, listing their affiliation (for identification purposes) if an organizational sign on is not possible.
