Be Kind, Blacksburg Pledge
By pledging to be kind, you will enjoy the benefits of discounts and offers around town during Be Kind, Blacksburg week (May 21-27th, 2016). Don't forget to participate in one or more of our amazing events!

What is "Be Kind, Blacksburg”?
A week long series of events and activities promoting kindness and anti-bullying awareness. During this week we are encouraging acts of kindness within our community, schools, and workplace. Activities include FREE classes, panel discussions, speakers, and activities hosted by local businesses, and organizations. As well as pay it forward initiatives. “Be Kind, Blacksburg” is set for May 21st – 27th 2016.

“Be Kind, Blacksburg” EVENTS:

SATURDAY - SUNDAY: "The Wizard" musical production by Little Leapers & LEAP Performing Arts Academy. This original story, inspired by the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" is a positive, fun and engaging musical production. This community production has allowed 200+ performers to use their talents as a platform to speak out about bullying. It will be fun for the whole family! (When you pledge, you’ll save $5 on your ticket to the show!)

MONDAY: School Panel Discussion
What is your school doing? What are you questions for teachers and administrators on bullying. Plus, first hand experiences from people in our community.

TUESDAY:
Story Time at Imaginations Toys

WEDNESDAY:
Internet Safety with Tina Merrit at Center for Arts

THURSDAY:
Work Place Bullying & The Law @ Studio 2.0, 12:00 PM .
Rackspace's HR professional, Meghan Dembrosky, will be speaking about bullying in the workplace. She will provide insights from a corporate perspective on how Rackspace handles workplace bullying, with a large focus on how to create a workplace culture that doesn’t facilitate the promotion of bullying behaviors to begin with. Sometimes, bullying crosses lines and damage is done or threatened, and legal help is needed. Technology also often aids bullies, providing greater access to their targets and more expansive opportunities for harassing conduct, via email, text and social media. James Creekmore, owner of The Creekmore Law Firm, will tell us what protections and remedies the law offers against bullying and will identify the legal avenues for relief that are available to assist targets of such conduct.
