Jamboree 2018 // Bursary Applications
Jamboree 2018 is a bespoke artist-led professional development event bringing together 150 visual artists, curators & programmers in a relaxed outdoor setting, on the Dartington Estate (nr Totnes, Devon, UK).

Across 4 days, attendees will navigate LOW PROFILE’s participant-built programme of presentations, micro-exhibitions, activities and discussions to share practice. Jamboree 2018 also offers the chance to stop, engage, interact and recharge in a positive critically-engaged environment.
Who is Jamboree 2018 for?
Jamboree 2018 is aimed at critically engaged artists, arts organisers, curators and programmers who are practicing professionally (whether on an independent or salaried basis) from around the UK and further afield. The event is not suitable for current undergraduate students and those who are not professionally engaged in visual arts practice.

Why does Jamboree 2018 have a pre-registration process?
Jamboree 2018 is limited to 150 participants. For this reason, tickets for the event will be available on an invitation-only basis. Pre-registration ensures that participants' practices are situated in a relevant professional context and are making work of a high quality.

We also want to ensure that the event has a good spread of participants:
- from across the UK and further afield
- with a mix of artists & curators
- at a mix of career stages

Which of these career stages best describes your practice?
We know that it can be really tricky to clearly define career stages for arts professionals & practitioners. We struggle with this all the time. Here are our best attempts:

Early Career - you are a recent graduate, or are beginning to initiate projects or show or curate work in a professional context; you might be showing work via selection through open calls or participating mainly in group exhibitions; you might be initiating or curating small-scale one off projects

Mid Career - you have a track record of developing projects, curating or showing work in a professional context; you might be making (or have made) successful applications for funding (or other modes of fundraising) to achieve professional projects; you are probably receiving or negotiating regular invitations to work with NPOs, or other mid-sized recognised professional bodies or through gallery representation; you may have initiated your own, or work for an existing arts organisation; you are likely to have had your work / curatorial practice recognised by arts professionals & practitioners through awards, bursaries, residencies or similar

Established - you are regularly initiating, developing or curating projects or showing work by invitation through NPOs, or other recognised professional bodies or gallery representation; you might be a salaried curator or hold director-level positions with NPOs, or other professionally recognised organisations; you probably manage or initiate large-scale commissioned projects; you have developed a national or international professional profile

You are nearly done... What happens now?
Jamboree 2018 bursaries aim to support a range of artists, curators, programmers & arts organisers at different stages of their careers and the selection process will reflect this.

All bursary applicants will hear back on whether they were successful (or not) before the Early Bird Tickets go on sale in early November 2017 so that they don’t miss out on the chance to take up this offer.

If you are not successful on this occasion, simply filling in this application means that you have completed the pre-registration process for Jamboree 2018. If you don't get a bursary, we will be in touch to send you an invite link to purchase a Jamboree 2018 Weekend Pass. Tickets go on sale in November 2017 and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis.

If there is a high level of demand for spaces from your particular location, or at your career stage, or practice type, we may only be able to offer you a space on our reserve list for tickets. If this is the case, we'll let you know.

Similarly, if we feel that Jamboree is not a good match for the professional or arts context you operate in, we will let you know.
