Monthly Rag Editor Apprentice Application

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Editor is responsible for publishing the Rag on time, including material that is published on the FemGeniuses website via WordPress, corresponding with writers regarding content, proofreading, copy-editing, and checking submissions for inaccuracies. Along those lines, the Editor may also revise materials. The Editor must also ensure that content is the appropriate length. If content is too long, for instance, it must be edited to fit the space available. Finally, the Editor is responsible for answering correspondence regarding the Rag and its content, including communicating with Communications staff regarding print publication. However, some correspondence may be forwarded to the Supervisor and/or Director of Feminist & Gender Studies, depending on the level of appropriateness.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong work ethic. Ability to work autonomously. Strong comprehension, writing, and oral communication skills. Attentive. Reliable. Experience with or ability to learn design and publishing software, such as WordPress, Microsoft Publisher, Photoshop, and/or InDesign. First-year or sophomore Feminist & Gender Studies major or minor.

INSTRUCTIONS: If you are interested in applying to serve as Editor Apprentice (unpaid) during the 2019-2020 year, please submit the following application by the last day of Block 7 at 5 pm. Interviews will be conducted and a decision will be made during Block 8. Please note that the current Rag Editor will be present during interviews and will participate in the decision-making process. If you are selected for the position and the apprenticeship is completed successfully, you will be promoted to Editor (paid) during the 2020-2021 academic year.
