AB 130 Independent Study for the 2021-2022 year
If you are requesting Individualized study for a pupil whose health would be put at risk by in-person instruction, complete the attached Independent Studies Application Form. The applications will be reviewed by the district and enrollment information will be provided to families once accepted. Please note, once enrolled in the Independent Study program, request to re-enroll in In-Person learning in the physical school setting will be determined by space availability. This means your elementary student is not guaranteed space in their current school of enrollment and may be re-enrolled at another school upon request to return to In-Person Instruction.
TO BEGIN THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR IN INDEPENDENT STUDY, THIS FORM MUST BE RECEIVED BY AUGUST 5, 2021.
Applications into the Independent Study Program will continue to be processed after August 5, 2021, those students will have a later start date of their IS program and will need to attend school at their assigned site or be marked absent.
Ed. Code 51745(a):
51745 – For the 2021-22 school year only, the governing board of a school district or county office of education shall offer independent study to meet the educational needs of pupils. Educational opportunities offered through independent study may include, but shall not be limited to, the following:
(1) Special assignments extending the content of regular courses of instruction.
(2) Individualized study in a particular area of interest or in a subject not currently available in the regular school curriculum.
(3) Individualized alternative education designed to reach the knowledge and skills of the core curriculum. Independent study shall not be provided as an alternative curriculum.
(4) Continuing and special study during travel.
(5) Volunteer community service activities and leadership opportunities that support and strengthen pupil achievement.
(6) Individualized study for a pupil whose health would be put at risk by in-person instruction, as determined by the parent or guardian of the pupil.
