Jr. Eagle Band meets at Loomis Grammar School, Tuesday - Friday, with occasional Monday sectionals, from 7:10am - 8:00am. Attendance at sectionals is not optional. *

Students who do not attend Loomis Grammar will be bused, free of charge to their school at 8:00am. A bus pass application must be returned to the bus driver. *

Tardy Policy: *
Starting the second week of band, the band room door is closed and locked at 7:10am to facilitate an efficient rehearsal. Tardy students (those who are not in their seats ready to play at 7:10am) will be invited in at the convenience of Mrs. Kuersten (usually between warm-ups). On days of inclement weather, the door will remain unlocked so that no student is caught in the rain. Tardy students do not receive full participation points for the day (see grading policy below).

Grading Policy: Participation (35%) *
3 pts possible each day for participation. 3pts - On time with instrument, music, and pencil. 2pts - Tardy with all materials OR on time but missing music. 1 pt - Missing instrument and/or disruptive in rehearsal. 0 pts - Unexcused absence from band. What is an unexcused absence? If a student is ill and does not attend school, band participation points will be excused for the day. If a student attends school but does not attend band rehearsal it is considered an unexcused absence. If a student is well enough to come to school, they are well enough to come to band. If their illness makes it difficult for them to play their instrument, alternate assignments will be provided in class so that they may earn participation points. If a student is up late doing homework the night before band and does not attend the next morning that will NOT be considered an excused absence. Students: Please plan your time accordingly.

Grading Policy: Practice Assessments (35%) *
Students will be expected to practice at home to keep up with the demands of advanced music. Students should be practicing at least 75 min per week and will be responsible for completing occasional in class playing tests. In the event that students are not keeping up appropriately, practice records may also be assigned.

Jr. Eagle Band is an enrolled class in which students receive a permanent grade. Students are expected to stay in band class for the entire year. In order to remove band from your student’s schedule you must schedule a phone or in person meeting with the music teacher. All drops must be approved by the music teacher, classroom teacher, and site administration. *

Concert Attire: Band performances require formal attire. *
REQUIRED - White dress shirt, black dress pants or knee length or longer skirt, black shoes/socks. NOT PERMITTED - Jeans, shorts, sweatpants, T-shirts and tennis shoes. Some performances will require purchase of Jr. Eagle Band Polo shirt. Financial help is available for all concert attire (please e-mail Mrs. Kuersten for the financial need form - ekuersten@loomis-usd.k12.ca.us ).

Field Trips: *
Jr. Eagle Band performs at various schools and venues throughout the school year. After signing up for band, your child will receive a field trip permission slip that needs to be returned before they can attend performance off campus.
