TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUT INFORMATION

Detroit Junior Roller Derby is looking for level III (Blue and Purple) skaters for our 2026 -2027 Travel Team!!!!

Tryouts will be held Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm
 
The Detroit Junior Roller Derby Travel Team will be selected by a panel of Detroit Roller Derby members including Detroit Junior Roller Derby coaches Dan and Nightshade.
- Travel Team closed practices will be every other Wednesday in addition to open league practice which is currently held bi-weekly. Travel team skaters will have the opportunity to practice every Wednesday evening and will be expected to prioritize the closed Wednesday practices designated for them. Open league practices are also offered Saturday mornings. 
- Travel Team skaters are expected to try and make at least 50% attendance of travel team practices and communicate with coaches if they can't attend practices.
- The 2026 - 2027 fall - spring season is still under construction. Our goal is to have a regulation away game in Lansing on September 12th, a regulation away game at Mitten Kitten hosted in Grand Rapids on Saturday October 10th, a public home game on December 12th and multiple closed regulation scrimmages at normal practice times throughout the season. 
- Detroit Junior Roller Derby will be beginning the process of JRDA sanctioning for the 2026-2027 season. 
- The Detroit Roller Derby Travel Team has room for up to 20 skaters; however, we will be prioritizing commitment, skill, work ethic, coachability and team mindedness over trying to purely bolster our numbers. Each game will only have 15 skaters allowed on the roster, so there is a possibility that even though a skater is on the team, they might not see track time on game day.

I understand that Detroit Junior Roller Derby Travel Team is a commitment outside of the requirements of league practices. Are available on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 -7:30 bi-weekly?
I hereby commit to be a member of DJRD Travel Team and am wiling to participate in whatever capacity is best for the team. I understand that, should I make the team,  whether I may or may not be listed as one of the skaters on the charter, I am still a part of the team, and will continue to contribute to the best of my ability. 
I will respect the roster decisions of coaches even if I do not agree with them, and participate accordingly.
I will attend all the games to which I am assigned, meaning that if I am selected for the roster, even as an alternate, I will attend and be prepared to participate. 
I will put the interest of the team above my own individual preferences and desires.
I will positively contribute to the team. This includes promoting positive team culture and always trying my best to have an attitude that helps enhance that culture. 
I understand that I am a representing Detroit Junior Roller Derby both in-person and online and will uphold the league's standards and conduct myself in alignment with the league's values.
I will watch footage with intention and analyze opponents.
I will learn the rules, strategy, and plays, and will continue to strive to advance my knowledge of the sport.
I will commit to off-skates exercise, and I acknowledge that off-skates movements are an important aspect of safe participation in athletic activities. 
I will learn and practice how to best communicate with my teammates. 
I will contribute to the league, and our sport, as a leader both on and off the track. 
I will attend team meetings
