This application form is for the participation and full funding for LETRS professional learning provided by the Iowa Department of Education. In partnership with Lexia® Learning, Iowa is providing the opportunity for educators to be trained in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) or LETRS for Administrators. Developed by Dr. Louisa Moats and leaders in the field of literacy, LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the foundational and fundamentals of reading and writing instruction—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language.
The information and responses you provide in this registration form will be used to verify eligibility and administrate LETRS professional learning. Any questions about the information requested or received through this form or its use should be directed to

Note: You may only register yourself. This form is not intended to be completed by anyone other than the individual applying to participate in the Iowa LETRS professional learning. Teachers are invited to register for the LETRS for Elementary Educators. Instructional Coaches may choose to take either the LETRS for Elementary Educators or LETRS for Administrators. Instructional Coaches will not need to take both courses. Administrators are invited to register for LETRS for Administrators. Administrators will not need to take both courses.
Participation in multiple LETRS courses is not advised.Who is Eligible?
Any Iowa K-8 educator currently teaching or serving as an administrator in an accredited Iowa school. This includes special education teachers, Title I educators, instructional coaches, and others who provide elementary literacy instruction. This also includes administrators who provide support to teachers of reading instruction. In addition, professors of higher education who instruct reading methods courses.
The Iowa Department of Education will make all decisions regarding the approval of registration applications, notifying applicants whether their applications have been accepted or declined. For questions or further information about the decision and award criteria and process, please contact
