Hands Off Our Healthcare: Keeping Families Covered Campaign (Medicaid Unwind) Sign On Form
Louisiana is facing a public health crisis.
Over a million Louisiana residents receive their health care coverage through Medicaid. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) which prohibited states from disenrolling anyone involuntarily who was enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP on or after March 18, 2020. This continuous enrollment provision ended March 31, 2023, and in April of 2023, Louisiana began the Medicaid Unwind process to remove beneficiaries from rolls.
As of December 2023, approximately 362,314 Louisianians, 114,272 of whom were children, have lost Medicaid coverage, with the majority of terminations occurring for procedural reasons. Procedural disenrollment occurs due to simple barriers such as missing paperwork, long call center waiting times, confusing forms, and system errors.
It is imperative that states pause procedural terminations to employ an effective redetermination process, and ensure sufficient efforts for the continuation care access for thousands of Louisianians.
The Louisiana Center for Health Equity (LCHE) is inviting you to sign on as partners to collaborate in advocating for a pause in the Medicaid Unwind process.
