Presently, Bryn Mawr College has not deemed Religious Life a priority. This means that current students, their families, and alumnae are unable to donate directly to benefit this very important cause. Even if they donate to the Bryn Mawr Fund and designate the donation to be for religious life, the funding instead goes to whatever the college has deemed a priority. Funding for Jewish life has been limited to what the Self-Government Association has provided, which is not sufficient, so in the last few years, Jewish students have had to seek funding elsewhere and become dependent on Hillel International to fund their part-time rabbinic adviser. We are gathering names and testimonials of Jewish Bryn Mawr students, past and present, who know that this is not enough. We are asking Bryn Mawr College to deem religious life a priority so that Mawrters can directly form the Jewish community that they want to see.
Especially in this time of rising bigotry, we must stand in solidarity with other religious groups. We stand with other faith groups on campus who are also unable to donate directly to religious life. This is why we also support the creation of an on-campus Interfaith Adviser who is able to serve all faith groups.
