Session 1: 10 Things You Might not Know About Positive Discipline with Valerie Tih
In this session, you will learn about Positive Discipline as a parenting technique and ways to deal effectively with difficult behaviours. Valerie Tih (mother of Tyler ‘25) has over 20 years experience as a speaker, presenter and a facilitator of spiritual retreats and educational workshops. She is a certified “Happiness Coach” graduate, a program taught by Dr. Robert Holden, one of the world's most sought-after experts in the field of positive psychology and wellbeing. She has a special interest in choosing love over fear, and in theories on cooperation. She now teaches Junior Kindergarten at a private school in Toronto and, as a Parent Coach, assists families wanting peaceful homes. Valerie graduated with honours from the Bachelor of Education program at OISE at the University of Toronto and is a Golden Key Society member. http://joyfullcoaching.ca/
Session 2: Mindfulness and Creativity with Nicole Kagan
In this session, you will have an opportunity to explore the intersection of mindfulness and creativity and the ways in which you can explore this for yourself or with children. Nicole Kagan (mother of Zoe ‘25 & Izzy ‘21) is a visual artist with a background in painting, photography, communication design & jewellery. Her work is deeply inspired by the natural world as a reflection of the interior human landscape. Most recently she is exploring the rich intersection of mindfulness and creative expression/process. In her light-filled studio located within Toronto’s historic Artscape Wychwood Barns, Nicole creates original art, teaches private sessions & facilitates group workshops in creative mindfulness. www.nicolekagan.com
Session 5: Screens and the Brain with Dr. Aaron Izenberg
In this session, you will have a chance to learn from a neurologist the effects of screens on the brain. Dr. Aaron Izenberg (father of Elon ‘20, Noah ‘24 & Amira ‘26) is a neurologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is a neuromuscular specialist practicing at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. He completed his neurology residency at the University of Toronto, and a fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine at Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women's Hospitals in Boston. He is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. He is the education site director for neurology and the director of the urgent neurology clinic at Sunnybrook. Dr. Izenberg's clinical focus is in working with patient neuromuscular diseases.
