EWI of Columbus November Chapter Meeting
Community Impact: Spotlight on Freedom a la Cart
Our November program focuses on making an impact on the community – one of EWI’s core tenets. Our recent first place scholarship winner, April Thacker, will share her story working to help survivors of human trafficking through the organization Freedom a la Cart. Freedom offers women rescue, rehabilitation and restoration through cause cuisine.

In this presentation you will learn more about the effect of human trafficking and the often over-looked statistics on our population. You’ll also hear about a unique partnership with the Catch Court (a specialty docket within the Municipal Courts), information on trauma-informed care and news about Freedom’s support services program.

How can you help? During our November meeting, we are holding a coat drive benefiting these survivors. Bring in women’s coats, hoodies, gloves – your cold weather gear – to be donated. All sizes are accepted. This is a huge need as the weather turns cold soon, so clean out your closet! Please bring your clean coats and other cold-weather gear clothing to the October and/or November EWI Chapter meetings or contact Karen Gilbert at ksgilbert13@gmail.com or 614-989-9327 to arrange for pick-up of very large amounts or if you can’t attend the meetings. Be sure to reach out to your family, friends, and neighbors too!
