DCLA has two open board positions and we are also reviving DCLA Committees this year! This is a great opportunity to implement ideas as part of a team of engaged colleagues from across library sectors.
Use this form to volunteer for a committee and/or one of the open board positions.
Open Board Positions:
These individuals are appointed by the President for a one-year term. The appointments expire with the end of the President's term. The incoming President may appoint them to another term. All Board members actively participate in monthly Board meetings, vote on critical organizational decisions, and establish governance policies for DCLA.
Self-nominations will be considered on a rolling basis until both positions are filled
- Leadership Director: Maintains and updates online career content, monitors and promotes job board postings, with support from Boards and committees crafts and leads 1-3 career-focused events (remote or in person or other).
- Academic Libraries Section Chair: Leads DCLA's academic interest group, overseeing member-focused programming.
Open Committees that need your participation!
- Website Committee: Working with the DCLA Systems Director this committee will identify and implement updates to the DCLA website.
- Advocacy Committee: Under the direction of the DCLA Advocacy Chair, develop and plan advocacy efforts and advocacy programming
- Communications Committee: Under the direction of the Communications Director, work to develop ideas and content for DCLA newsletters, social media, merchandise, and more!
- Events and Awards Committee: Support DCLA events and awards, including the Annual Awards Banquet
- Three Stars Book Awards: Are you invested in supporting awesome literacy events for DC students? Battle of the Books is a competition that happens in May each year where DC school teams compete in a book trivia battle using the 3 Stars Books. Committee members can help with tasks both small and large, from helping to organize event logistics, communicate with partners to get copies of books to schools, communicate with schools, write questions, host the event, and more! - Battle of the Books:
The 3 Stars committee strives to recognize books that incorporate diversity, multiculturalism, and other curricular connections as a means to connect reading to learning while building a culture of reading across DC schools. Committee members nominate and choose books based on reviews, readers' interests, and requests. The books are used for the Battle of the Books competition and a winner is selected in each category by students and educators at the end of each school year.
