After the first day of school and once the grading period begins, all rehearsals and performances are graded activities. Unexcused absences will deduct from a student’s grade; partial credit may be earned back if student completes designated make-up activities.

Excused absences must still be made up in most instances, and full credit will be available.

Excused Absences

1. Significant student illness
2. Death in the family
3. Emergency medical situations (Please schedule all pre-planned, non-emergency medical appointments around rehearsals and performances)
4. Mandatory religious obligations
5. Pre-arranged schedules that overlap with other FHS activities (EMAIL Mr. Simon directly in these circumstances)

Unexcused Absences

1. Work Schedule (Students should plan ahead and go over the Band calendar with their boss)
2. Forgetfulness
3. Attending tutorials during rehearsal (Each academic department at FHS offers tutorial opportunities throughout the week; they should find opportunities on mornings or afternoons when there are not Band rehearsals or performances)
4. Choosing to stay home to work on homework/projects (Students should plan ahead and take care of business when it does not interfere with the communicated schedule)
5. Oversleeping
6. No ride to rehearsal (Students should ask section leaders for help if they anticipate a need for a ride!)
7. Non-emergency, planned medical appointments
8. Any other reason not listed above as excused
