This asynchronous online course gives you the basics for understanding what OER are and how to use them as your teaching materials. You will learn about copyright, fair use, and licensing information, and the course will open your world to the more than one billion OER resources online. It will give you the foundation you need to add OER to your class, to adopt and modify OER, or create new OER. This knowledge will make your work much easier if you want to move your course to Textbook Cost: $0 (TXT0). The course starts September 1, 2023. It takes about 15-20 hours to complete.
Faculty members and lecturers will be compensated $360 in overload for completing the requirements of this course (pending HR approval) and you will get an official UHCC OER 101 certificate or badge. Eighty seats are set aside for OER 101 this year. Lecturers must complete the course by the end of the semester they enroll (for fall 2023, December 15; for spring 2024, April 30) to be eligible for overload. Staff participation may also be possible but will require supervisor approval.
