In this week's Gospel, we continue to hear John's farewell discourse.  After learning last week that we all live from Jesus (he is the vine and we are the branches all nurtured by God), we continue this week to hear about the immense love, or agape love, that God and Jesus have for us.  Not only that, but Jesus wants us to take that pure love that he has for us and have us in turn love everyone else.  Jesus also states that we are no longer slaves, but friends, as we know what the Father has told Jesus.  He tells us this because he has chosen us and he now wants us to go out and bear fruit by loving others.   Please watch the video and use the following questions to discuss the Gospel with your family.
How does Jesus want us to act in the world?  (He wants us to spread his word and to love others the way God loves him, with pure agape love) *
Jesus explains agape love as the willingness to lay down one's life for a friends and then calls his disciples his friends, no longer slaves.  Jesus does in fact lay down his life for all of us.  How do you feel like you are a friend to Jesus?  Do you feel like you would lay down your life for him?  Do you feel like you are going out into the world and spreading his love? *
Why did Jesus say that his disciples are no longer slaves, but friends?  (Because he has shared with them everything his Father has told him) *
Take some time to show your love and appreciation to your mom this Mother's Day weekend! *
