We are interested in any porcupine sightings on the north coast of California within the past 10 years. Porcupines are generally found in coniferous and mixed forested areas. Porcupines are slow-moving nocturnal herbivores that range from 2-3 ft long and are covered in quills. Porcupines spend most of their time in trees feeding and resting. This information will be used to initiate a study on trends in porcupine populations in and around Humboldt County. Thank you for your participation! If you have any questions about the study, please contact Tim Bean (bean@humboldt.edu), Assistant Professor of Wildlife at Humboldt State.
