2019 Turtle Mountain Teen Art and Writing Workshop Participant Application
This workshop is designed to support students in grades 7-12 in developing submissions for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and to provide opportunities to develop technical skill, creativity, and a personal voice or vision in art and writing.
This will be the 5th year of the Turtle Mountain Teen Writing and Art Workshop. This year we will offer sessions on story writing, poetry writing, art, and video game design. Our principal workshop leaders/artists are Denise Lajimodiere, Jonathan Thunder, and Dave Binkard. One-on-one support for revision is provided by local high school teachers, Jackie Frederick and Siri Johnson. An alum of the program, Rick Belgarde, will apprentice to the workshop leaders to provide support for the teens. NDSU professor Kelly Sassi will present on opportunities available through the Scholastic Writing and Art Awards program and the Red River Valley Writing Project.
Who: for incoming 7th to 12th grade students. Limited to 24 students.
Each student who successfully completes the workshop and
contributes a polished piece of writing to the chapbook will receive a
$150 stipend for participating in the workshop and polishing up and submitting
work to the workshop leaders.

Where: Turtle Mountain High School Library, Conference Room, and Teacher’s Lounge
When: Monday-Friday, June 24-28 and 9:00 AM until 4pm
Why: To provide enrichment in writing and art to Turtle Mountain
teenagers. To increase access to the Scholastic Writing and Art
Awards in areas where student participation can be increased.
