Rotary Club of Carlton 'End Polio Now' Walk
Members will know that Rotary International has partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to contribute funds for the eradication of polio. For every $1 that Rotary raises, the Gates Foundation contributes $2. As the Rotary Club of Carlton's contribution to the End Polio Now campaign, we are encouraging all our members to go on a virtual walk together during the month of October, leading up to World Polio Day on Sunday 24th October.

During the lockdown, members have not had to pay the $30 for meetings at Graduate House. We are therefore suggesting that each member donates $30 saved to End Polio Now. The the 2:1 from the Gates Foundation, this will multiply to a $90 contribution!

Because a face-to-face group walk is not possible, we will be going on a virtual group walk instead. Our collective aim will be to walk the distance from Carlton to Shoreham and return-- a total of 186 km. Why Shoreham? To pay a virtual visit to Tony Broughton of course!

To achieve this goal of 186 km, record your activity each day using a fitness tracker, a free app such as Strava or runkeeper, or just your phone. If you don't have any of these, just make an estimate of the distance walked.

Use this form after each activity to log your kilometres travelled, so that we can see how far we can collectively walk. Members, partners and family members (and furry friends) are all welcome to log their walks.

Awards will be given for:
- The most distance walked
- The best walking photo

Activity tracking is for the entire month of October. Send us your walking total for the week and photos of you on your walks. We will be tracking progress towards Shoreham each week!

All it takes is 23 members participating and making the suggested donation of $30 for RCC to raise over $2000 for polio eradication!
