Background: Leaders in education, community-based primary healthcare, and those with lived experience of mental illness have been meeting since November 2020 to discuss effective collaboration between schools and healthcare centers or community mental/behavioral health centers to address trauma as the Healthcare workers and Educators Addressing and Reducing Trauma (HEART) Collective. Out of the HEART Collective discussions came the need for a learning collaborative to explore how best practices in this process look in the real world, while supporting the educators, healthcare workers, and mental health professionals involved in these multi-sector collaborations.
This initiative is led by the New England Mental Health Technology Transfer Center (MHTTC), the Region One Offices of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), in partnership with the New England Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC) and the New England Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC).

By the close of the learning collaborative, participants will:
-Gain tools, strategies, and skills for maintaining effective collaborations between school-based and community-based health professionals and overcoming barriers to providing school-based mental health supports
-Make an action plan for strong collaboration between schools and community-based health professionals to provide school-based mental health supports and/or systems for their school/district
-Receive intensive technical assistance to help them troubleshoot current collaboration challenges
-Learn how to communicate to families, students, and the school community the importance of collaboration between schools, community-based mental health and healthcare providers, and and other community members, and to further involve all stakeholders in the task of cultivating a compassionate school community to address and buffer against trauma

Participants are eligible for 15 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon completion of the program.

This application should be completed and submitted by a district or school administrator/leader by September 10. Please e-mail dasby@edimprovement.org with any questions.
