RE: First Annual Acorn Harvest
Hello!
We hope this letter finds you well! We are writing to request permission to harvest acorns from the oak tree located on your property.
Our organization, the Alameda Native History Project, is dedicated to promoting the cultural heritage of the Ohlone people, the indigenous inhabitants of the San Francisco Bay Area--and the First Alamedans--through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
We are currently undertaking the First Annual Acorn Harvest, which aims to revive traditional indigenous practices and share them with the community.
The acorns we harvest will be stored over winter in the Acorn Granary, at the Alameda Point Collaborative Farm2Market. In the spring, we will process the acorns into Acorn Flour and Acorn Meal, which will be offered to local Native American Organizations and Tribes! These ingredients will also be featured in a series of community events and culinary workshops, where we will make traditional and contemporary Native American foods using Acorns!
We understand that fallen acorns can be a nuisance, and we are happy to help clean them up for you. In return, we would be grateful for the opportunity to use the acorns for our cultural and educational programs.
We want to assure you that we will take great care of your tree and ensure that the harvest is done in a sustainable and respectful manner. We would also be happy to provide you with more information about our project and our harvesting practices.
If you are interested in allowing us to harvest acorns from your tree, please let us know and we will arrange a time that is convenient for you.
Thank you for considering our request.
Sincerely,
Gabriel DuncanFounder
