We, a group of international students affected by the OPT delay, are communicating with the administration at Middlebury to seek CPT (Curricular Practical Training), a much faster and cheaper alternative to OPT. CPT does not have to be processed by USCIS, and instead can be approved directly by the school in a matter of days. CPT also does not have a steep fee like OPT, which costs $410. Currently, Middlebury does not offer CPT for summer internships. We understand that the ISSS (International Student & Scholar Services) office has already been pushing for this benefit for years. It seems that now more than ever, we need CPT to alleviate the stress and cost caused by the extended OPT processing time.
We ask you to sign your name below if you support the petition for summer CPT at Middlebury. You can be someone who is currently affected by this, someone who has suffered from this, or someone who will benefit from a future CPT offer. You also don't have to be an international student to support this. Maybe you have a friend who is going through this and you want to help; maybe you feel connected enough to international community at Middlebury to show your support; maybe you simply want to advocate for benefits for international students.
We deeply appreciate your support. We value every single signature. One more signature means that this issue carries a bit more weight on the table of the administration. We are fully aware of the fact that this might not happen soon enough for any of us currently suffering from the delay, but we hope to help future international students at Middlebury, so they don't have to go through this again.
Thank you for your support.
