Green Team Job Description and Application
Groundwork Lawrence (GWL) is accepting applications for the School Year Green Team. The deadline to submit applications is extended to Friday September 21, 2018 at 5:00pm
in deference to the events related to the gas explosions in Lawrence.

Overview:
The Green Team school year leadership development and employment program offers part-time PAID positions for high school students, from Lawrence to help lead and learn about local environmental and health issues, conduct research, raise awareness, challenge their peers to do community service, and participate in hands-on improvement projects throughout the City of Lawrence and beyond.

Time Commitment:
Regular programming will be scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm and some hours on Saturdays as needed. Green Team members will work about 20 hours per month, as well as volunteer 5 hours per academic quarter through a combination of after school and weekend service. Green Team members will also participate in unpaid field trips to do activities such as hiking in the White Mountains, touring National Wildlife Refuge parks, and visiting colleges. The school year program runs from October 9, 2018 to June 4, 2019.

Application Process:
Applicants are required to attend a mandatory group interview on Tuesday Sep. 25th, from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Groundwork Lawrence’s office, 50 Island Street Suite 101, Lawrence, MA. We will take time to conduct individual interviews with you during this time too. If you are offered employment, you are required to attend Parent/Guardian Orientation on Tuesday Oct 2nd from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groundwork Lawrence’s office, 50 Island Street Suite 101, Lawrence, MA. Our new start date for those who are hired will be Tuesday Oct. 9, 2018. Important: Hold all of these times in your calendar.

Responsibilities
- Help to harvest locally grown produce for sale at Groundwork farmers markets and donation at Bread and Roses
Soup Kitchen
- Help to maintain parks and green spaces throughout the city
- Assist GWL in running community-wide events like the Spicket River Cleanup, Earth Day, and the Kite Festival
- Learn about the ecology and history of different green spaces in Lawrence and lead educational and recreational
tours
- Deliver health workshops to various Lawrence youth groups on the importance of healthy eating and physical
activity
- Write articles and create videos for GWL website, blog, social media and local media sources
- Help to increase awareness around litter, illegal dumping, and the importance of recycling
- Participate in citizen science, service learning, and stewardship projects throughout the city
- Attend workshops, educational trips, and conferences designed to teach professional skills
- Other projects, events, and trainings as determined by GWL
Minimum Qualifications
- Have an interest in the environment, natural history, outdoor recreation, park clean ups, healthy food, and/or
community engagement
- Must be a resident of Lawrence, MA
- Ability to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00 - 6:30 and some Saturdays as needed, have flexibility to work other
days with advanced notice.
- Be able to balance the demands of a paid job with school, sports, after school activities and volunteering
- Commit to participation for the duration of the program (October 2, 2018 - June 1, 2019).
