The Central Gulf Coast CDF Freedom School is a free, six-week summer literacy and cultural enrichment program to be held June 4-July 12, 2024. The program is for Escambia County School District (ECSD) students who have completed grades K-8th, and all classes will be small groups of ten students or less.
Preference will be given to students of underserved communities, students in the Escambia County School District, and those receiving free and reduced lunch. The program will utilize the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom School model and curriculum. Students will receive two nutritious meals and a snack daily, and a book each week which they keep to build their home libraries.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS- ECSD Students who have completed grades K-8th by June 2024
- Parents must commit to attending weekly, virtual parent meetings.
- Families must commit to providing transportation to and from the in-person program site
- Students will be chosen based on school of attendance, date of application, as well as class openings.
