This survey is intended to collect the names and contacts of restaurants that are interested in being paid to provide nourishing meals to their neighbors in need of food assistance, through the Vermont Everyone Eats program.
In response to COVID-19, restaurants, farmers and community organizations across Vermont have stepped forward to help feed neighbors experiencing food insecurity. These programs have helped stabilize communities by nourishing Vermonters, alleviating the surging demand on food shelves, and providing economic support to restaurants. The State of Vermont has allocated $5M from the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) to a new program called Everyone Eats, which supports Vermont restaurants feeding Vermonters who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. The program will run from August 1 through December 18, 2020.
Participating restaurants will be paid $10/meal and at least 10% of the value of ingredients for each meal must be sourced from local farms and value-added food producers. Local in this case means from Vermont or within 30 miles of state borders. Meals must be nutritionally balanced. For this program "restaurants" can be brick and mortar, food trucks/carts, caterers, or any other food service provider that pays Vermont Meals Tax. You will NOT be required to pay Meals Tax on the revenue from Everyone Eats.
A group of Upper Valley organizations are developing a proposal for Upper Valley Everyone Eats. These organizations include the Haven, LISTEN, Willing Hands, Vital Communities, and more. We welcome all interested UV partners. It is likely we will submit a proposal the week of August 17. The funding is extremely flexible as to how meals are delivered to recipients - projects could deliver frozen meals, provide vouchers for individuals to use at restaurants, provide meals to food shelves. It is possible to be creative within the guidelines the state has provided.
There is not yet an estimated minimum amount of meals required for restaurants to participate in Upper Valley Everyone Eats; however, it is likely that the minimum amount per week will be around 200 meals.
Right now we want to find out what restaurants are interested and able to participate in the program, and what type of program would work for restaurants. For questions please contact Nancy LaRowe,
