The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and Prenatal to Five Fiscal Strategies (P5) is seeking input from early care and education providers, including child care and development centers, family child care homes, tribal programs, and license-exempt family, friend, or neighbor care providers on the cost of child care to help inform child care subsidy payment rates.
Moving away from market rates and building on the Cost of Quality Study completed last year, CDSS is working with P5 to design and implement an alternative methodology process to:
- Better understand how much it costs providers to deliver high-quality early care and education and stay in business.
- Develop a tool to help estimate the true cost of care based on variable such as program size, geographic location, and ages of children served that can be used to inform rate-setting.
To kick off the work, P5 is hosting three Input Sessions in Anaheim, CA on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 to hear from child care owners, directors, and FFN providers about their current expenses and the true cost of care – not just what families can afford to pay.
Input Session times on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 (participants may choose from one of three times):
- 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM
- 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
- 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Anaheim Input Sessions will be held in English and Spanish. Additional Virtual Input Sessions will be held throughout the summer.
