The first Emmaus Retreat was held in the Archdiocese of Miami at the Dominican Retreat House in 1978. It was developed and conducted by a team of laywomen from St. Louis Church in Kendall and has since spread to parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Miami, other cities, states and even internationally. The retreat is based on the scripture passage found in Luke 24:13-35, where Jesus appears to two disciples who are on the road to Emmaus, after Jesus’ resurrection.
The retreat offers a unique opportunity for personal, spiritual growth simply by discovering a new relationship with God and with others. It allows time for personal reflection and affords you the opportunity to meet Jesus on your personal journey. The Emmaus retreat allows you to step away and look at yourself as a Christian / Catholic, helping you to focus your life in a positive and meaningful way. The retreat guides you through a series of reflections given by different women on all aspects of life – spiritual, emotional, physical, and relational. Our hope is that you come away with a renewed sense of priorities.
St. Mark parish offers retreats for both men and women, held separately, each coordinated by the men and women of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
The retreat begins Friday evening at 5:00 PM with registration at St. Mark Catholic Church. Once registration is complete, a bus will drive those attending from St. Mark to MorningStar Renewal Center. The bus will return attendees back to St. Mark Catholic Church at the end of the retreat on Sunday afternoon for a friends and family celebration during the 5:00 PM mass.
We request a $220.00 donation to cover the basic expenses of the retreat, but financial hardship is not to stand in your way of growing closer to God. Please let us know of your situation.
