Breakout Session descriptions:
1) Self Care & Healing - Tara Scott-Miller will guide participants through embodied self-awareness practices of introspection, meditation, deep listening and skillful dialogue. These contemplative strategies foster compassion, resilience, skillful understanding, and authentic connection to support our personal healing and transformation and also cultivate a foundation for sustainable collective action.
2) Disruptive Messaging - Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you saw or heard something that frustrated you because you knew it wasn’t right, but you didn’t know what to say? It could be someone making a statement that offended you or being dismissive of an issue that you care deeply about. It is hard to know what to say in the moment, but if you take some time beforehand to think through the kinds of things you’d like to say, you are more likely to be prepared when those moments come. In this workshop, we will take time to think through and practice how to respond verbally and discuss some principles of confrontation to help you decide when and how to respond to difficult situations.
3) Immigration Policy/DACA - Learn about the latest updates on immigration policy, DACA (including what this means), and current/future implications of changes in these policies.
