Across the country, faculty, staff, and students are experiencing
dire consequences of the Trump administration’s attacks on higher education.
Lifesaving research conducted by many of our members that
gives hope to cancer patients and offers the possibility of new treatments for
diabetes, Alzheimer’s and other diseases that affect millions of Americans is now
threatened by cuts and policies that slash crucial scientific inquiry.
Federal funding is at risk of evaporating for educational
institutions that teach accurate history and lessons about slavery, diversity
and inclusion, among other efforts. This action by the administration, which
the AFT is fighting in the courts, will do a disservice to students and
ultimately the nation by weakening schools as portals to opportunity and
incubators for creative, innovative and critical thinking.
