The Ten Essentials
The "Ten Essentials" is a way of making sure you bring what you need to be prepared for accidents and emergencies when traveling in the backcountry. The Ten Essentials first appeared in print in the third edition of Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills in January 1974.
