We are thankful for all the years that Coach Valeri ran Cross Country for us. She's done an amazing job making the program what it is today.Mrs. Lawson has coached Cross Country in the past and will be the new CC Coach with the assistance of Ms. Pierce (Brayden's mom).
All parents/students need to take the concussion training and submit certificates to the office. Remember to put both parent and player name on the certificate- that way you only have to do the course once!https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.htmlAthletes also need to have an updated physical on file in the nurse's office.
The fee is $80 per runner. The fee covers bus transportation (if needed) and uniform shirts. Students may wear their gym uniforms shorts or navy blue shorts for meets. Please send in your payment and permission form by Thursday, September 6th.
PRACTICESPractices are held in the St. Leo’s Cemetery. Your child will need running sneakers, a change of comfortable clothing, and WATER **Runners MUST bring a water bottle or purchase one from the vending machine**
Optional: iPods/ iPhones for music may be used during practices only, not meets.
Students will not be able to practice in school uniforms or school shoes. Practices are held during inclement weather. We run outside in light rain so have your children come with proper clothing. In the event of thunderstorms or heavy downpours, we will practice in the school gym if it is available. In the event of cancelling practices, you will be notified as soon as possible. If your child is absent from school or cannot attend practice, please let Mrs. Lawson know- you can call school or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org
Practices end at 4:30pm. Runners can be picked up at the Lancaster Street doors. If your child/children are going to extended care or are going home with another family, please indicate that on the permission forms. Students who are not picked up at 4:30pm, will be sent to extended care
MEETSThe distance for meets ranges from 1.7 – 2.2 miles. The finish times for the meets ranges based on location, start time, and speed of the runners. All students must be picked up from meets. I suggest arriving by 4:45pm to pick up your child. Although the meets may not be complete, spectators are welcomed to cheer the runners on! Students must check in with the coach before leaving the meets to make sure everyone gets home safely.
In addition to the annual All Catholic Schools meet, we will also participate in the Central Massachusetts Middle School Cross-Country Invitational to be held the end of October. Details to follow.
CANCELLATION POLICY: St. Anna does not have a home course. The meets are cancelled by the other coaches from the schools we are running against.
TRANSPORTATION: We ask parents to drive to the meets to save on transportation costs. If you are able to drive to the meets, please let Ms. Fairbanks and Mrs. Lawson know. We are very fortunate for the past four years to have a great group of volunteer drivers. We meet in the back of St. Anna Parish (on Derwin St.). Details will be provided prior to each meet.
The season officially starts after Labor Day and ends by October 31st. The meet schedule will go out as soon as it is confirmed.
