Thank you for volunteering at Marston Middle School. We could not offer excellent educational and enrichment programs without the participation of Marston parents and community members. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated. Please indicate your interest level in all events below. This will help us make efficient and effective communications to parents about events. The principal forwards this information to the coordinator of each specific event. Thank you again for volunteering at Marston! Dates below may be exact or just approximations. All events are subject to change. Current dates and times always displayed on official calendar on Marston website.

Anchors Aweigh (8/25/17 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.) Distribute schedules, distribute food and/or give tours. *
Fall Book Fair (9/11/17 through 9/14/17 during the day and 9/14/17 in evening) Cashier and Supervision *
Parent Involvement Day (11/16/17 8-9 a.m.) Help organize welcome reception, provide and distribute food to parents. *
Read Across America Day (3/2/18 8:30 -9:30 a.m.) Read a book in a classroom. Some set-up/ sign-in help is sometimes needed. *
Career Day (3/14/18 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) Present your career to students. One presentation to 3 separate classes. *
4th and 5th Grade Tours (3/9/18 and 4/12/18 approx 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) Help chaperone elementary students visiting from Alcott, Bay Park, Cadman, Holmes and Toler while they tour the Marston campus.
Spring Open House and Book Fair (4/19/18 5-7 p.m.) Cashier and Distribute information. *
8th Grade Zoo Field Trip (6/12/18 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) Chaperone a group of 8th grade students at the zoo. *
Are you interested in helping the Marston Community Service Core? This group holds 4 after-school events on campus (supporting Veterans, homeless, elderly and sheltered animal service organizations).
"One Community Mentoring Program" - Adults mentor one Marston student who has had some academic difficulty. Adult visits student twice monthly (each meeting just 15 minutes). It is critical that adult commits to their student for the entire school year. *
Band Fundraising and Concert Support (Ongoing throughout the year) *
Theater Support for Practices and/or Shows (One show in December; one show in May) *
Clairemont Community of Schools - committee of parents and staff of Cluster Schools (CHS, Marston, Alcott, Bay Park, Cadman, Holmes and Toler) work together to improve K-12 experience and increase enrollment. (about 5 meetings per year on Thursdays 5-6:30 p.m.) *
PTSA - Parent, Teacher and Student Association - Work with other parents, teachers and principal to raise funds and sponsor school programs (Meets one Tuesday each month 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) *
8th Grade Exhibition Panel Member (4/26/18 and/or 4/27/18) View presentations and provide feedback to 8th grade students. You can sign up for as many presentations as you like. *
School Site Council and Shared Governance (About 6 Monday afternoons during the school year - 3:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m) Attend meeting that makes decisions on Marston programs and funding. NOTE: Official members must complete the official application in the August Parent Welcome Packet. *
Field Trip Support - Select "yes" if you would like to be contacted when additional chaperones are needed to field trips such as local colleges, local theme parks, off-campus science labs, etc. *
Library Support (ongoing throughout the year) Organize books and other library materials. Help anytime you are available during school hours - as much or as little as you want. *
Classroom Support (varied throughout the year). Such opportunities at middle school are much less common than elementary school, but parents are occasionally needed to support a unit, project or event. Usually these requests are facilitated by the teacher, but parents who are interested in helping inside classrooms other than their own child's classroom can express interest here.
