Islamic Months
Assalamu Alaykum Children!
Muslims follow the Islamic calendar. It consists of 12 lunar months. Each month has 29 or 30 days. On average, there are 355 days in a lunar year. The fact that the lunar year has approximately ten days less than the solar year brings an Islamic anniversary ten days ahead each year in the solar calendar.
Allah ﷻ mentions in the Quran, “Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve (lunar) months in the register of Allah (from) the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are Sacred (i.e. the 1st, the 7th, the 11th and the 12th months of the Islamic calendar)…” [Al-Quran 9:36]
