On October 5th, I will be standing with Vermont dairy workers in a national day of action to call on Ben & Jerry's to join the Milk with Dignity Program! We'll tell Ben & Jerry's: Human Rights Can't Wait!
On Thursday October 5th, Vermont farmworkers are calling on allies to stand together for dairy workers' human rights with a national day of action at Ben & Jerry's scoop shops and retail stores across the nation. From Burlington to San Francisco, from Florida to Washington state, we will demonstrate to Ben & Jerry's that there is a powerful groundswell of support for the Milk with Dignity Program; we call on the company to ensure human rights for the workers putting the cream in Ben & Jerry's ice cream! (for more information on the campaign and program: https://migrantjustice.net/milk-with-dignity)

Our demand: Ben & Jerry's must ensure farmworkers' rights are respected in their Northeast dairy supply chain by signing the Milk with Dignity Agreement NOW!

Why this action: Since 2010, Vermont dairy workers have been educating Ben & Jerry's about serious human rights violations in its supply chain. In 2014, VT farmworkers called on Ben & Jerry's to join a new worker-driven program, modeled after the groundbreaking Fair Food Program, to ensure respect for farmworker rights its supply chain. On June 20th, 2015, after a dozen actions were planned at Ben & Jerry's scoop shops across the country, Ben & Jerry's publicly committed to join the Milk with Dignity Program.

After two years of talk and no action by the company, hundreds of farmworkers and their fair food allies relaunched the public campaign in 2017-- including a 13 mile march to Ben & Jerry's Vermont factory in June. The CEO of Ben & Jerry's was on site at the factory and assured the passionate crowd of supporters that Ben & Jerry's is "ready to go"... And yet nearly two months have passed since then, and Ben & Jerry's has still not made a legally-binding commitment to the Program!

In September, Migrant Justice will embark on the "Human Rights Cannot Wait" speaking tour from Vermont to Washington, DC, logging over 1000 miles sharing worker's reality laboring in Ben & Jerry's dairy supply chain, presenting on the campaign and building support for the October 5th national day of action!

We will share an action toolkit that will provide you with what you need to take informed and effective action on the October 5th, so stay tuned to our website.
