GULC Election Day Petition
On Friday, October 14, 2016, six students organizations asked the Georgetown University Law Center administration, in a public letter, to reschedule or cancel all classes on Election Day, November 8, 2016, and to provide paid leave for staff to ensure that there are no obstacles to voting or Election Day volunteering for any member of the Georgetown Law community. Election Day classes have already been cancelled this year at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and a half dozen other law schools. The six student organizations, which were quickly joined by three others, offered Georgetown the opportunity to embody its ideals by leading our country toward a national Election Day holiday that would ensure that all Americans can freely exercise one of our most fundamental rights: the vote.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, Georgetown respectfully declined to enact any of the requested Election Day policies. Please sign this petition if you want Georgetown Law to reschedule or cancel all classes on this Election Day and on Election Days to come and to provide paid leave for staff to ensure that there are no obstacles to democratic participation for any member of the Georgetown Law community.
