At United Ways, we recognize that the foundation of resolving our community challenges lies in the active participation of our citizens. Whether addressing housing insecurity or combating unemployment, we understand that people are looking for impactful ways to advocate for systemic change in our communities. By exercising their right to vote, our communities can drive meaningful change. Together, we can make a difference.
To amplify these efforts, we have launched the United for Democracy Pledge. This initiative aims to galvanize local United Ways, partners, and community members nationwide to foster civic engagement and ensure everyone's voice is heard on the issues that matter most to them.
By taking the United for Democracy Pledge, you/your organization pledge to actively promote civic participation and the values of democracy. While we have created a toolkit to help with voter engagement outreach, signatories are free to engage their communities in whatever way feels most impactful and authentic.
Examples of activities that you or your organization might undertake include:
Championing Voter Registration and Participation:
- Advocating for voter registration drives and initiatives to ensure every eligible citizen is registered to vote, while actively encouraging your community to participate in every election, recognizing the vital importance of each vote to our democracy.
- Promoting voter education by disseminating accurate, non-partisan information about candidates, issues, and voting processes.
Supporting Free and Fair Elections:
- Advocating for policies and practices that ensure elections are free, fair, and accessible to all eligible voters.
- Opposing any forms of voter suppression, discrimination, or practices that undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
Engaging in Community Outreach:
- Working with local organizations, schools, and community centers to raise awareness about the importance of voting.
- Partnering with other non-profits, faith-based organizations, and community groups to amplify our collective voice for democracy.
Empowering Marginalized Communities:
- Focusing efforts on empowering underrepresented and marginalized communities to ensure their voices are heard in the electoral process.
- Providing resources and support to address barriers to voting faced by these communities.
