NYS Good Food Purchasing Program Coalition Commitment Form
Our food can be locally sourced, sustainable, fair, humane, and healthy & can advance racial equity & transparency throughout the food supply chain. The Good Food Purchasing Program (GFPP) ensures public food dollars reflect these values by providing a metric-based, flexible framework that encourages public agencies (like schools, hospitals, carceral facilities, and senior centers, etc.) to make more deliberate decisions about how they source our food.

The New York State Good Food Purchasing Campaign is working to bring this transformative policy to public agencies across the state. The Program helps large institutions buy their food from value-driven suppliers by creating meaningful and achievable food purchasing goals in each of the Program’s five value areas: Local Economies, Environmental Sustainability, Valued Workforce, Animal Welfare, and Nutrition. We believe cities should commit to reasonable public review, robust analysis, and full transparency during the implementation of the Good Food Purchasing Policy.

To date, GFPP has been adopted by New York City, NY, Los Angeles Unified School District, San Francisco Unified School District and many other cities and districts across the country. These commitments represent a combined $1 billion of food purchased from vendors that adhere to GFPP values. Additionally, there is an active coalition in Buffalo, NY that is working closely with the NYC coalition to shape state policy and implementation.
