EPA & CARB Restricted Parts

It is illegal to install, sell or offer for sale any aftermarket part that alters or modifies the original design or performance of the motor vehicle pollution control system unless the vehicle is exempted (uncontrolled) or the part has an Executive Order issued by the California Air Resources Board (also commonly referred to as the "EO" number). If you use the item on a pollution-controlled vehicle, you will violate the Clean Air Act 203(a)(3), 42 U.S.C, 7522(a)(3) and may be subject to personal civil or criminal liability, including fines of up to $4,819 per day and/ or (DMV) revoking the vehicle registration and certificate of ownership (title), refusing the transfer of registration, and/or the vehicle failing smog inspection. Law enforcement may cite you for the use of an illegal aftermarket part and seize your title and license plate.

These new restrictions on sales of all emission related items are being implemented in an effort to comply with our best understanding of enforcement actions by CARB and EPA, specifically regarding the Clean Air Act (CAA). According to the Clean Air Act, it is illegal to sale, offer for sale, or install any device on a pollution-controlled motor vehicle that is intended to or can be used to modify or bypass emissions controls.

Our best understanding as of the writing of this article is that the intentions of the Clean Air Act when passed are for vehicle use on public road that is 1966 to current model year. Any vehicle before 1965 are considered un-controlled vehicles.

Due to current legal proceeding regarding the Race car use is still going through the legal system and no information has been released by the EPA, we will not be able to sell any item for race/offroad use at the moment until we have a definite answer from the EPA.
