For over four decades, My Brother's Table has been an essential resource for Lynn residents and a cherished institution in our community. My Brother's Table not only provides meals for residents facing food insecurity, it also brings people together from all walks of life in a space where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. For guests and volunteers alike, My Brother's Table reflects the spirit of inclusion that is Lynn at its best.

Now there is a danger that My Brother's Table could be forced out of its home, because the City is preparing to sell the building. My Brother's Table has unique needs for space, facilities, and location, and if it is displaced from the building, Lynn would lose the welcoming and accessible institution in the downtown that we know and love.

Therefore, to ensure that My Brother's Table survives, we call on the Mayor and City Council to:
  • ensure the building will be used permanently as a soup kitchen and for services to low-income people through a deed restriction;

  • sell the parking lot together with the building to ensure operational and financial viability;

  • ensure the buyer can invest in needed upkeep and extensive repairs by selling for a nominal price;

  • ensure the property can be used for additional resources needed by guests of My Brother's Table and other low-income members of our community, such as health care, harm reduction, leadership development, and other activities of groups that uplift the needs of diverse low-income residents;

  • ensure that housing built on the property be created by a developer with a record of community collaboration to meet the needs of residents in cities like Lynn.

Sincerely,
