ALL COSTS ARE COVERED ( TRANSPORT, FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION) PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A SMALL STIPEND OF 150EUROS PER MONTHParticipants are expected to stay in the projects the 9 months and plan some holidays in between.
The EVS project is based around youth participation in the design of futures for the rural world, based on ecovillage models promoted by the RIE, the Iberian Ecovillages Network. The volunteers will have the experience of living in Lakabe Community, with its 38 years of experience is the longest-standing ecovillage in Spain, and one of the oldest communities in Europe. The way of living in lakabe involves many of the skills and tasks needed for a self-sufficient rural lifestyle. Volunteers will learn from making bread, to caring of the sheep, taking care of a garden, forest sustainable forest and water management.
In this way we offer a full immersion learning experience in rural living and space for collective creativity to imagine futures to reverse rural depopulation involving the younger generations.
The EVS volunteers will work in collaboration with the Iberian Ecovillage Network (RIE) and YestoSustainability /Next GEN Europe in different tasks around youth work in ecovillages and other possible local projects on repopulation.In addition, the EVS volunteers will live in Lakabe ecovillage where everyday there are different tasks such as: going to the mountain to cut wood, feeding the animals, working in the gardens, making preserves for the winter, cooking for the community, making bread, etc.
Requirements: The volunteer need to know basic Spanish, and have good writing skills in english. The volunteer will be asked to learn basic of Spanish during her/his stay, as it will be the main language in the office as well as during the activities organized with and for local volunteers. Highly valuated skills are: flexibility, sense of responsibility, self-initiative and the ability of working in a team. Previous experience in other ecovillages branches, workcamps, youth exchanges or international trainings will be also considered.
