1. What does David in the Old Testament say about the ten commandments?
Psalm 19:7. NKJV- “The law of the Lord is (a)_______, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is (b)______, making wise the simple.” Paul says in Romans 7:12 that the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, just and good. Jesus says in Matthew 5:19 that whoever breaks a commandment and teaches others to break it also, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven.

2. What is the intent of the commandments?
Luke 10:27, NKJV-… “‘(a)____ the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and ‘(b)____ your neighbor as yourself.’ ” Romans 13:8-10 says that he who loves his fellowman has kept the law, and that the commandments “are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall (c)_____ your neighbor as yourself" NKJV. Note that the first four commandments deal with love for God, and the last six encourage love for man.

3. What new commandment did Jesus give?
John 13:34 NKJV- "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as (a)____ have (b)_______ you, that you also love one another.” Love each other is an Old Testament command (Leviticus 19:18). Love to God is also an Old Testament command (Deuteronomy 6:5). What is new about Jesus’ command is that He now wanted his followers to love the way they saw Him love. The new love commandment is not a replacement of the ten, but an extension.

4. Are we saved by keeping the ten commandments?
Romans 3:20, NKJV- “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be ________ in His sight, for by the law is the ___________ of sin.” The law exposes sin, but cannot cure the problem. It can criticize, but cannot cleanse.

5. So did God do away with the ten commandments?
Romans 3:28, 31, NKJV- “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. 31 Do we then make (a)_____ the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we (b)___________ the law.” The law’s inability to save is no excuse for breaking it.

6. If we are not saved by the law, why keep it anyway?
1 John 3:4, NKJV- “Whoever commits (a)_______ also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.” The KJV says “Sin is the transgression of the law.” James 1:23-25 describes the law as a mirror that shows us our true condition. The mirror cannot cleanse you, but it can tell you what your problem is. You will be unwise to get rid of the mirror because it shows up your dirt. The law is that mirror. It condemns the sinner and approves of the righteous. But it cannot solve your problem. Only the love and grace of God through Jesus’ blood can wash you clean.
