IntergenMUN 2020 - Committee Staff Application
This application is for at-conference volunteers to run the committee simulations for the 2020 InterGenMUN held at UIC Student Center East on Saturday, April 18, 2020 If you are interested in volunteering to help with event planning or pre-conference tasks and then attending as a regular delegate, please email Max Burns at
The deadline to apply is March 24. We require that you attend either one in-person training on Saturday Saturday, March 28 or schedule an on-line training session with Max Burns between Saturday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 31 .

As a member of the committee staff, you will guide your delegates through the Model UN simulation and serve as a resource for their questions throughout the day. Descriptions of the available positions and the 2020 committees can be found below.
Note: Experience is NOT required for the Vice Chair or Rapporteur positions, and background guides have already been prepared for your delegates. The only commitment prior to the conference will be attending a short training session which will be communicated upon your acceptance.

Model UN Experience
Please briefly summarize your Model UN experience (if any). Experience is not required for the Vice-Chair or Rapporteur positions.
Are you familiar with the Rules of Procedure?
Charged with overseeing the entire resolution process. They must make sure that delegates are writing resolutions in the proper format. Also, they will ensure that delegates are staying on topic and are genuine to their delegation’s policies. Model UN experience required.
Committee Vice Chair
Responsible for facilitating all of his or her committee’s proceedings by following Global Classrooms Model UN rules of procedure, ruling on points and motions, keeping time, and ensuring that students have a lively debate. In addition, the Committee Vice Chair moderates proceedings when deemed necessary by the Committee Chair.
Responsible for keeping the committee in order by maintaining the speakers list, calling roll, and tracking all resolutions and votes. The Rapporteur can and should assist in all aspects of running the committee and should serve as the main liaison between the dais and Conference Services/UNA-Chicago staff.

Please note you must have prior Model UN experience and a thorough working knowledge of the rules of procedure in order to Chair a committee. You do NOT need prior Model UN experience to fill the Vice Chair or Rapporteur positions. There will be a mandatory training session for all selected Chairs, Vice Chairs and Rapporteurs prior to the Conference.
Please answer the following four questions in 5 to 10 sentences. We are looking for quality and substance over length.
1. Why do you want to serve in a committee leadership position at InterGenMun? Please briefly describe your qualifications.
2. You have an hour remaining, and you have just finished the committee agenda for the day. What do you do with the remaining hour?
3. There are several delegates making inappropriate proposals (i.e. dismantling the UN or declaring war on other member states) that are harming the tenor of the committee. How do you address this situation?
4. One delegate on your committee has not raised her placard to speak all session. How do you address this situation?
